Isaiah 1:2-20 Reconstructed Original Orthography

چکیده
In the scansion offered below, a reconstruction of the Isa 1:2-20’s original orthography is presented. It is based on the premise that the text derives from the late 8th or early 7th cent. BCE. The orthography mimics that of the Siloam inscription and other inscriptions of that period. Even if by definition the reconstruction is less than certain in a number of instances, it serves to highlight alternative interpretative possibilities before the fuller orthography of later periods precluded them.

Isaiah 1:2-20 Scansions with Prosodic Notations
Stichographic arrangements of ancient Hebrew poetry that have come down to us in manuscript tend to dichotomize lines, regardless of whether they consist of two or three versets. This has the advantage of maintaining a consistent arrangement. It has the further effect of emphasizing the major and deemphasizing the minor caesura of a 1:(1:1) or (1:1):1 structure. In the scansions that follow, th...
متن کاملThe Social Life of Orthography Development
From a linguistic perspective the development of orthography for a language is often taken as a scientific endeavor involving the adoption of a set of graphic conventions for mapping the phonemic system of a language. In this paper I unpack how orthography development and use is necessarily wrapped up in sociopolitical debates. Approaching orthography graphically, I demonstrate how spelling its...
متن کاملSlope Accuracy and Path Planning on Compressed Terrain
We report on variants of the ODETLAP lossy terrain compression method where the reconstructed terrain has accurate slope as well as elevation. Slope is important for applications such as mobility, visibility and hydrology. One variant involves selecting a regular grid of points instead of selecting the most important points, requiring more points but which take less space. Another variant adds ...
متن کاملThe Motif of Deafness and Blindness in Isaiah 6:9-10: A Contextual, Literary, and Theological Analysis
Isa 6:9-10 is examined in its local (Isaiah 6) and broader (Isaiah 1-12) contexts, as well as in relation to the rest of the book and (briefly) extraIsaianic passages of Scripture. Following a literary analysis in form, redactional, and rhetorical-critical terms, theological argumentation is developed consistent with the thesis of the paper. It is argued that the motif of deafness and blindness...
متن کاملDoes Orthography Affect L2 Tone Production and Perception?
Many studies have investigated the production and perception of second language learners. However, very few of them have discussed the effect of orthography. Although Mandarin and Cantonese share the same orthographic system, the phonological systems of the two languages are quite different. This preliminary study investigates the production and perception of Mandarin tones by Cantonese learner...
